Now that you have a better understanding of WHAT makes your computer sick,
here are some things you can do to keep it from getting infected. I don't
profess to be able to keep out every single little bug, but following these
rules will keep out 99% of them.
Rules for a Healthy Computer
- If your computer is acting funny, try
having it scanned by one of these Online virus scanners.
TrendMicro
Click this link, select "United States" in the country box
and then Click this button after the page appears.

-
Use
a well known antivirus and anti spyware software such as Norton Internet
Security by Symantec. As new viruses are developed and released
everyday, you have to make sure your subscription to the "Most Wanted
List" is current so the software can look for ALL of the newest bad
guys that may have infected your computer.
-
NEVER,
EVER open an attachment or file in an e-mail from someone you do not know.
-
Do
not download and install any free games, screensavers, or other files.
-
Use
GOOD passwords. Any password that is a name, word in the dictionary,
or any combination of names and passwords can be hacked in seconds!
Here is a good rule to make a password that is easy to remember and hard to
hack!
-
Instead
of using the name of a child or pet, write a sentence about the child or
Pet and include a number and the appropriate punctuation My
horse Buster runs barrels in 16 seconds!
-
Now,
take the first letter from each word, keeping the proper capitalization,
all the numbers and the punctuation and you have one heck of a
password! MhBrbi16s! Now that's a
password the best hackers won't break!
-
Use
a browser besides MS Explorer, We use Firefox by Mosilla
If
your Internet Service Provider gives you more than 1 email address, Use one
for a "throw away" . Use it to sign up for sites that
require you to "log in" or join. That way you can dump all
the spam that comes as a result (And avoid the spyware).
